A man is dead after crashing into a dump truck on the Spaulding Turnpike in Dover on Thursday morning, authorities said.

New Hampshire State Police said James Stammers, 39, of Lynn, Massachusetts died from his injuries at the scene.

Just after 8 a.m., troopers responded to a report of an crash-detection notification from a cell phone on the Spaulding Turnpike, north of Exit 8 West. 911 calls reported a crash between an SUV and a dump truck, state police said.

The dump truck, driven by a 55-year-old from Pittsfield, was stopped in the right lane because of traffic when the Lincoln Navigator, driven by Stammers, hit it from behind, state police said.

The entire northbound side of the highway was closed near Exit 8. The road was fully reopened around 11:30 a.m.
